“And Only Jazz Will Remain”
This is the title of the poster for our 6th edition, created by Lyon-based illustrator La Patate Bleue.
Amid strange, post-apocalyptic vegetation, a woman plays the piano in a suspended moment, with only storks and Saint Thomas Church as her audience. A gramophone rests on the ground, surrounded by scattered vinyl records at the musician’s feet.
What if, at the end of the world, only jazz remained?
A woman, a piano, and jazz…
In an international context marked by wars, ongoing crises, and the resurgence of old demons, while attacks against all forms of diversity are increasing alongside the collapse of biodiversity, this is not the time to give up.
Despite significant cuts in funding and the growing precarity of our sector, we remain committed to our vision: a human-scale festival that is inclusive, equitable, and eco-responsible.
This year, 49% of the artists performing on our stages are women, along with many “firsts”: first concerts or premieres, first one-hour sets for emerging artists, first headline performances, and first appearances in Alsace.
We remain firmly committed to supporting the boldness and creativity of the artists shaping the independent jazz scene and redefining its codes.
Another first in France, the organization of a “Jazz Camp for Girls” in Hautepierre, designed for girls aged 10 to 15 who want to explore different instruments and learn the art of group improvisation. This initiative is part of a European-scale project led by JazzDanmark.
The entire festival operates on a pay-what-you-can basis (with the exception of the new Jazz Clubbing afterparty) - That doesn’t mean it’s free :
We rely on everyone to contribute according to their means, through donations, to ensure fair pay for all artists and teams, as well as to cover insurance and operational costs.
We hold on to the hope that music, and jazz in particular, can suspend time, worries, and conflicts, helping us keep an open mind and stay connected to life and to one another.
Enjoy the festival!
