WORKSHOPS

circle songs
Lead by Julie Fandi and Leïla Harmi-Meistermann (A Hue et à Dia)
Workshops exclusive to women and gender minorities, no previous musical experience necessary
Vocal improvisation workshops for to women, girls, and gender minorities from the Hautepierre, Gare, and Elsau neighborhoods from July 8th to 11th (3h per day).
The final concert presenting the participants' work will take place Saturday, July 12th at the Médiathèque Olympe de Gouges.
Circle Songs is first and foremost a form of ancestral singing. One person sits in the centre of a group in a circle formation and freely improvises short musical loops that they then distribute to different parts of the circle, developing these bits of music according to their inspiration. No musical knowledge or experience is necessary. Using this exercise, participants will create melodic loops featuring different rhythms and harmonies, the objective being to create an evolving chant whose spontaneous and joyous nature has a unifying effect.
